Those who have been treated for substance misuse often have co-occurring mental health problems including depression, PTSD, anxiety disorders, and some personality disorders. Additionally, people with substance use disorders are at elevated risk for suicidal ideation and attempts. In fact, suicide is a leading cause of death among people who misuse alcohol and drugs. This session will explore the dual dynamics of substance use disorder and suicide and increase participants’ knowledge of warning signs and who is most at risk for suicide.
